Prepping

Hardcore Preppers like to assume the worse case scenario, thinking that this will prepare them for any potential emergency. They have created various levels of preparedness including Get Home Kits, Bug Out Bags, Survival Caches, Evacuation Plans and some even have a fully supplied Bunker with water, bags of rice and beans, fuel, weapons and ammunition where they can hold up against the world!

My approach is low key and practical.  What do I need Day 1 and build to Day 3, Day 7 and Day 30.  By doing so I am more likely to be prepared for the possibility of having to fend for myself for short periods of time without water, electricity, communications or transportation.  Being stranded at home for a few days without utilities is more likely than abandoning camp and moving to a bunker in the woods where I would intend of spending the rest of my days living off of the land.  The second most likely scenario is that I am stranded away from home or forced to evacuate.  My plan will incorporate all three.

Prepping shouldn’t be a daunting task.  It shouldn’t be expensive.  It shouldn’t be an all consuming endeavor.  What it should be is a confidence building exercise that gives you the peace of mind that you can take care of yourself and your loved ones until essential services can be restored.
